Five Mountaineers compete in 8th-grade All-Star game

A fitting cap to a dominant championship season

Five Monadnock Mountaineers youth football players competed in the 8th-grade North/South All-Star game at Nashua’s Stellos Field Saturday. The Mountaineer players represented the North team, which won the game 19-12. It was the first time back at Stellos Field for the Mountaineer players since the team won the DII 8th-grade championship over Nashua 45-12 on Nov. 3.

The Mountaineers prided themselves on their ferocious defense and their ability to get equal contributions from everyone on the team, and that attitude was embodied by the players who were selected for the All-Star game. Representing Monadnock were Daniel Curran, who was second on the team in tackles this year with 64; Hunter Gullage, Scott Stanley and Danny Spezzaferri, who had three interceptions apiece this season to tie them for the team lead; and Tye Vaillancourt, who did a little bit of everything for the Mountaineers this year.

Mountaineer head coach Jon Gullage served as defensive coordinator for the game.
