Group discovered local resources
To the editor:
On Nov. 16, The River Center hosted “Special Education: Working Together to Support Children and Their Families.” Thirty people gathered to share information, resources and discuss ways to work together to support children who learn and grow differently. The diverse group was comprised of family members, professionals, and community members. The sharing touched on where to go for services, how to locate resources, frequently asked questions, and what is available based on the need of the family. Following the program, a parent shared, “This program was very helpful. I hope there will be more programs like this offered in the future.” And, “It was great to be able to meet some of the people who run the programs offered in this area.”
The River Center wishes to thank everyone who offered a piece of their weekend to spend time with families and professionals in our community. Specifically we would like to thank: Dr. Richard Matte, Director of Student Services, ConVal School District; Elissa Johnson M.Ed., Assistant Program Director, Constellations Behavioral Services; Anna Lake, Early Supports and Services and Lynn Yeiter, Children's Service Coordination Supervisor, both of Monadnock Developmental Services; Charlene Mayo, Parent Consultant/Workshop Leader, Parent Information Center; Melanie Greenwood, Leaps and Bounds; Dr. Megan Turchetti, Therapist, MAPS Counseling Services; Kelli Tourgee, Parent Group Facilitator /Home Visitor, The River Center; Bryan Terry COTA/L, ConVal School District; and Deborah DeScenza, Founder and Executive Director, Farmsteads of NE.
