Peanut Butter Chip 5K race set for Jan. 1
You party and stay up late on New Year’s Eve. How can you balance this out? By running or walking in the Souhegan Lion Club’s 36th annual New Year’s Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase 5K walk/run, road race and kid’s race. The kid’s race will start at 11:30 a.m. on the Temple town green; the 5K road race will start at noon. The certified 5K course runs through scenic Temple, over gently rolling hills.
Preregistration is highly recommended, as the first 120 entrants receive an official 5K race T-shirt. Temple residents and kids under the age of 18 can register for only $10, and all other runners are $12 if the registration is received by Dec. 30. Day-of registration is $15 (or $12 if under the age of 18) from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Temple Town Hall. The entry fee includes the T-shirt (first 120 entrants), hot food, refreshments and a post-race random prize drawing which includes ski tickets, dinners, gift certificates, gifts and more. The kid’s race is free of charge. Prizes will be awarded as follows: Top three men and women overall, first two men and women in seven age categories, first man and woman walkers and first Temple resident. The overall first man and woman will receive a gift certificate for a free massage.
The Lions are also holding a raffle the day of the race, featuring a 12-foot kayak. Tickets for the raffle are available before and after the race.
The Souhegan Lion Club (serving Greenville, Mason, New Ipswich and Temple) uses all proceeds to help community residents and charities.
