Car crash results in minor injuries
Two vehicles sustain major front-end damage in Peterborough Street collision
JAFFREY — Four people escaped a two-car crash at the entrance to the McDonald’s parking lot in Jaffrey on Tuesday with only minor injuries, according to Police Chief Bill Oswalt.
Originally, police were told the accident had involved three vehicles, said Oswalt in an interview following the investigation on Tuesday, but it became clear at the scene that only two had been involved. At about 1:20 p.m., a silver 2011 Jeep Liberty, driven by 17-year-old Jarred Monaco of Greenville, was traveling North on Route 202 (Peterborough Street) when the driver attempted to make a left-hand turn into the McDonald’s driveway. At the same time, a maroon 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by Tammy J. Marcotte, 37, of Manchester, was traveling in the opposite direction on Route 202. Monaco turned into the oncoming car, resulting in a crash that left both vehicles heavily damaged, police said.
“Monaco’s Jeep turned in front of Marcotte, failing to yield right-of-way, resulting in a collision,” said Oswalt.
Marcotte and her front seat passenger, Adam Mayer, 32, of Salem, both suffered what appeared to be minor injuries as a result of the crash, Oswalt said. The two were checked by ambulance personnel at the scene and declined to be transported to the hospital.
Monaco’s passenger, his mother Mary Valente, 39, of Greenville, was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Oswalt.
Monaco and Valente were both wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, and Marcotte and Mayer were not, according to police reports.
Both vehicles suffered major front-end damage and were towed from the scene. Jaffrey Fire Department assisted with traffic control and clean up following the accident, and both lanes of Route 202 remained open throughout.
At this time, there are no charges forthcoming in connection with accident, said Oswalt. “Investigation is still ongoing, and we’ll likely do some accident reconstruction to determine speed,” he said.
