Mother arrested for assault on cop

Man arrested for DWI outside court

A Peterborough mother faces a simple assault charge after she allegedly struck a Jaffrey officer, who was arresting her son in the Monadnock Plaza parking lot near the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey . The Jaffrey officer was uninjured, Jaffrey Police Chief Bill Oswalt said Tuesday.

In addition to a simple assault charge, Ruth Parker, 78, faces one count each of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Oswalt said the woman made various veiled threats and threatened to shoot people while her son, Jay Parker, 49, of Peterborough, was being arrested in the Peterborough Street plaza on Monday.

Jay Parker was arrested and charged with DWI, after a New Ipswich officer called Jaffrey police to report the man appeared intoxicated when he left the court with his mother, Oswalt said. Jay Parker had been at the courthouse for a trial on a criminal threatening charge out of Peterborough, according to court records.

Jay Parker was arraigned at the court on the DWI charge, following his arrest, and released on $5,000 personal recognizance. His mother was released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a July 11 court date.
