Hassan, Executive Council to meet Wednesday
PETERBOROUGH — Gov. Maggie Hassan and members of the Executive Council will be in town for two events on Wednesday.
At 8 a.m., Hassan and the council will attend a breakfast at Monadnock Community Hospital and at 10 a.m., Hassan will preside over a regular meeting of the Executive Council, which will be held upstairs at the Peterborough Town House. Both events are open to the public.
Debora Pignatelli is the executive councillor for District 5, which covers Nashua and 32 towns, including Antrim, Bennington, Francestown, Greenfield, Greenville, Jaffrey, Lyndeborough, Mason, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Rindge, Sharon, Temple and Wilton. On Monday, Pignatelli said each counselor has an opportunity during the summer to host an Executive Council meeting in one of their district’s towns.
“I chose Peterborough this year. It’s such a great community and I’m looking forward to having the governor there,” she said.
Pignatelli said that after the breakfast, Monadnock Community Hospital Chief Executive Officer Peter Gosline will speak to the governor and councillors about issues facing New Hampshire hospitals, including discussion of the financial issues hospitals are facing.
The lengthy agenda for the Executive Council meeting includes votes on numerous appointments, awarding of grants, acceptance of donations and approvals of state contracts. One item of local interest, Pignatelli said, will be approval of nearly $270,000 to fund school-based or community-based dental programs. She said Monadnock Community Hospital’s dental care program is one of many that will benefit from the money, which is 53 percent federal funds and 47 percent state funds.
Pignatelli said the meeting is intended to give people an opportunity to see the governor and Executive Council in action.
“There won’t be an opportunity for people to testify about the issues on agenda, but we’ll be available to talk to people before and after the meeting about what’s on their minds,” she said.
