High-speed police chase ends in crash

Nathan Jalbert, 19, of Hillsborough was arrested by Antrim police on Aug. 22, following a chase that spanned two towns and allegedly included speeds up to 100 mph on Aug. 17.

Jalbert was eventually arrested after police say they found him hiding behind a wood pile in a shed. An ambulance was called to take Jalbert to Concord Hospital for injuries and at this time the Hillsborough police took Jalbert into custody for aggravated DWI and resisting arrest. According to the 6th Circuit Court, Hillsborough, as of Aug. 28 the Hillsborough Police Department had not filed any charges with the court related to Jalbert’s arrest.

LePine completed the warrant on Aug. 22, and Jalbert agreed to turn himself in to police. The warrant charged Jalbert with two speeding violations, disobeying an officer, following a vehicle too closely, reckless operation and negligent driving . Jalbert was released on $5,000 personal recognizance with a court date of Sept. 9 at the 6th Circuit Court, Hillsborough.

The incident began at 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 17 when LePine allegedly saw a red 1991 Dodge Shadow convertible traveling north on Concord Street in Antrim, following another vehicle at an unsafe distance. According to police, LePine turned his cruiser around to follow the convertible northbound when Jalbert passed the vehicle in front of him.

According to police reports, LePine eventually clocked the vehicle going 74 mph in a posted 55 mph area. According to police, the convertible turned onto Old Turnpike Road, and LePine followed it and attempted to stop the convertible after the turn. The convertible proceeded to accelerate up to 100 mph, according to police, and LePine relayed this information to the Hillsborough dispatch. LePine said he lost sight of the convertible, but a Hillsborough officer notified him that the convertible was driving on the 2nd N.H. Turnpike.

The Hillsborough officer then alerted LePine that the convertible crashed at the intersection with Saw Mill Road in Hillsborough. At the scene, Jalbert exited the vehicle and ran into a shed, according to police reports; Lepine then drew his firearm and located Jalbert who was taken in to custody.
