Police: Car veered into PSNH truck

PETERBOROUGH — A car accident on Route 202 that resulted in the death of a Jaffrey man last week remains under investigation, with no word yet on the cause, according to Peterborough Police Chief Scott Guinard.

Jeffrey Sawin, 57, of Jaffrey died Wednesday after the 2010 Subaru he was driving crossed the center line and hit a southbound PSNH/Northeast Utilities truck. Sawin was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, Robert Edick, 56, of Dublin, and a passenger in the truck were not injured.

“We do not have a specific cause of the accident,” Guinard said Monday. “We are still interviewing witnesses and investigating. We do know the car did cross the center line. The PSNH driver went as far to the right as possible. He actually drove off the road in an effort to avoid the crash.”

Guinard said a state medical examiner went to the hospital and decided not to perform an autopsy. He said the medical examiner’s report and toxicology results might not be available to police for a few months.
