DUBLIN — A Toyota Camry involved in a single-car crash at the intersection of Old County Road and Route 101 late on Wednesday afternoon took out a telephone pole before rolling and coming to rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Zachury Hutchinson, 30, of Mont Vernon, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while traveling on Route 101, causing the vehicle to careen off the road and hit the pole, according to police.

The pole was destroyed, and the vehicle sustained heavy damage, but the airbags deployed and the driver was not injured, police said. He was checked at the scene by emergency personnel, and refused transportation to the hospital. No other vehicles were involved. The pole maintained an upright position, so no wires were downed in the accident, and power remained on int he neighborhood. It is not known yet whether power will have to be shut off in the area for repairs.
