Smoke reported at vacant inn near Crotched

BENNINGTON — Rescues crews from across the region responded to reports of smoke coming from one of the vacant condos across from Crotched Mountain Ski and Ride late Wednesday afternoon.

The call came in to the Bennington police at 4:20 p.m., Officer Brett Sullivan said at the scene Wednesday. Following fire and police investigation, Sullivan said there were no injuries reported, and that fire officials had not determined the cause of the fire. Sullivan said the Highland Inn condominiums have been vacant for years and are privately owned.

Deputy State Fire Marshal/District Chief Keith Rodenhiser was at the scene Wednesday to investigate the cause of the fire, Sullivan said.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Bennington, Greenfield, Hancock and Peterborough.
