Garage destroyed in early morning fire

PETERBOROUGH — An early morning fire on Sunday leveled a garage on Old Street Road and destroyed a vehicle inside it.

According to Peterborough Fire Department officials, firefighters were called to 507 Old Street Road at 3:18 a.m. Deputy Chief Paul Thibault arrived about six minutes later and confirmed that a 24-foot by 24-foot detached garaged was one fire. There were several small brush fires spreading as a result of the garage fire and the main house was slightly exposed to the flames from the garage.

Firefighters from Engine 1 and Ladder 1 quickly contained the blaze, according to Thibault. The garage and a vehicle inside were a total loss. There was some minor damage to the siding and windows of the house.

No injuries were reported. Information on whether anyone was at home at the time of the fire was not available on Monday.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by crews from Hancock, Greenfield and Jaffrey. Dublin and Jaffrey Fire Departments provided station coverage for approximately three hours .

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Peterborough Fire & Rescue Department at 924-8090.
