Driver dies in crash on Rt. 124
Name not released in Sunday night crash
NEW IPSWICH — Officials haven’t yet released the name of an individual killed in a single-car accident on Route 124 late Sunday evening.
At about 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, an unidentified individual was driving on Route 124 when the car left the road and crashed into a wooded area, according to a press release issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office on Monday. The impact of the crash is believed to have sparked a fire in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was killed.
Police and fire officials are not releasing the name of the individual until the conclusion of an autopsy by N.H. Chief Medical Examiner Thomas Andrew, which was scheduled to occur Monday. Police will release the driver’s identity pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
The press release did not identify the cause of the accident. In the press release, New Ipswich Police Chief Tim Carpenter stressed that drivers should take caution while driving in current weather conditions.
The accident is being investigated jointly by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and New Ipswich Police. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact the New Ipswich Police Department at 878-2771.
