Police to offer two programs to get citizens involved

NEW IPSWICH — Next week, the New Ipswich Police Department will be extending community outreach with two programs designed to help residents be more aware and assist in the policing of their own communities.

On Monday, the police department will host a Drug Awareness seminar at Mascenic Regional High School. Lt. Sean Cavanaugh and Officer Scott Radford will present residents and school personnel with information about signs to look for when identifying both narcotic substances and people who are using them.

On May 1, residents who are interested in becoming active in the protection of their own neighborhoods will learn the steps needed to begin a Neighborhood Watch program. The Police Department will be assigning officers to be a liaison to Neighborhood Watch programs, and is committed to attending local meetings upon request.

Both programs are scheduled to occur at Mascenic Regional High School at 6 p.m. Both programs are free and open to the public.
