Easement monitoring workshop offered by Harris Center, Hancock

A two-part conservation easement monitoring workshop is being offered by the Harris Center for Conservation Education for all interested in becoming volunteer monitors for the Harris Center’s growing number of conservation easements.

Part I will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harris Center. This indoor workshop will address all aspects of easement monitoring — from interpreting easement deeds to navigating with maps, compass and GPS.

Part II will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eric Masterson, Harris Center land protection specialist, will lead a practice at Otter Brook, the site of one of the more recent Harris Center conservation easements, using techniques learned the evening before.

Bring a compass and GPS, if you have them, as well as water and a lunch. Participants will meet at Happy Valley School.

For more information, contact Eric Masterson masterson@harriscenter.org or call 525-3394, ext. 115.
