Thorndike closed to fishing

Thorndike Pond will be closed to all fishing from Sept. 3 through Nov. 30, during a water level drawdown necessary for repair of the Thorndike Pond Dam. This emergency closure is in place to protect fish that may be isolated in small pockets of water and would be highly vulnerable while the lake is drawn down.

For more information, contact Carol Henderson of the N.H. Fish and Game Department, at 271-3511 or carol.henderson@wildlife.nh.gov.

Beginning Aug. 15, the public is advised that water levels in Thorndike Pond will gradually be drawn down to between 9 and 18 inches by the end of the month. The public boat ramp is shallow under the best of conditions and will be more difficult to use by Labor Day.

After Labor Day, the pond level will drop to approximately 7 feet below normal, so that work on the dam can be completed before the arrival of freezing temperatures. Construction is expected to conclude by Nov. 15.
