Monadnock Humane Society to hold affordable spay/neuter clinic
Monadnock Humane Society will offer an affordable spay/neuter clinic – Feline Frenzy – to qualifying applicants who demonstrate financial need.
The event will allow an estimated 35 cats to be spayed or neutered at a minimal cost to people in our community who are without vet care, or simply can’t afford to spay or neuter their cat. “Feline Frenzy” will take place at the Humane Society’s facility in Swanzey on Nov. 29. This event will be different from the society’s regularly scheduled spay/neuter clinics in that it will require a minimal copay of $10 per cat. The copay includes spay or neuter procedure, flea/ear mite treatment if needed, distemper/rabies vaccine if needed, and a collar and ID tag. Micro-chipping with registration is available for an additional $10 per cat. Multiple cats in each family will be considered.
“We feel strongly that owners of cats who come to our clinics are more likely to get follow-up care with a vet because we spend time educating them about it while they are here,” said Stephanie Frommer, director of shelter operations and field services for the Humane Society. “In some cases, this may be the only time these cats will receive veterinary care.”
“Statistics show that a single unspayed cat and her kittens left to reproduce can result in the birth of more than 370,000 cats in just seven years,” added Frommer. “And cats who are sterilized are healthier, live longer and are less likely to exhibit unpleasant behaviors that contribute to being surrendered or abandoned.”
