The first time the Wilton-Lyndeborough and Mascenic softball teams met this season, the Warriors walked off with the win.

On Monday, that was not necessary.

The Warriors scored 21 runs over a three-inning span and went on to defeat the Vikings 21-9 in a six-inning, mercy rule-shortened game.

But Mascenic bounced right back with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Hinsdale on Tuesday when sophomore Emily Rines drove in the winning run with a two-out double in the seventh for the Vikings’ third walk-off win of the season. Senior pitcher Katelynn Kelleher was 4-for-4, scored the winning run and got the win.

“Katelynn was the best she’s been,” said Mascenic coach Frank Cadwell. “She just played an all-around game.”

In the April 19 meeting between WLC and Mascenic, there were four lead changes and three ties before junior Sophie LeVert gave the Warriors the win in the last of the seventh. This time around, the Warriors did not need their final at bat.

Mascenic took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Lizzie Brassard infield single, but it was short-lived.

Junior Kim Edmunds highlighted a five-run fourth with a two-run single, as the Warriors took the lead for good.

“We hit the ball real good after the first couple innings,” said WLC coach Dennis Claire.

The Vikings got one back in the bottom of the inning before WLC exploded for 10 runs in the fifth to go up 15-2. Kelleher had to leave the mound in the fifth and the Warriors took advantage. Ally Schwab and Sami Bosquet each had RBI singles. LeVert knocked one in with a sacrifice fly and Edmunds connected for a two-run triple.

“We had a bunch of hits that inning,” said Claire. “We started really cranking the ball.”

At that point, all the Warriors needed was three more outs to end the game. But Mascenic was not going down without a fight. The Vikings responded with seven runs to force at least one more inning.

Casey Wayrynen drove in the first run of the fifth and following three walks that plated two runs, seniors Briana Pillsbury and Kelleher drove in two runs each with back-to-back singles.

But that was all it would be, as WLC added six more in the sixth to eclipse the 20-run mark for the second-time this season.

“That’s the best hitting team we’ve seen all year,” said Cadwell. “They just crush the ball.”

Edmunds finished with five runs batted in. Schwab was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the sixth, and Bosquet also collected three hits.

WLC hosts Epping on Friday in a rematch of its wild 28-20 victory on May 1. After three straight games to begin this week, Mascenic will next play on Wednesday versus Bow.
