Scholarship available for volunteers
To help students supplement the cost of their college education and reward them for their volunteer efforts, Citizens Bank will for the third year offer its TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship program.
Citizens Bank will award a total of $50,000 in college scholarships to students who demonstrate good citizenship through community volunteerism and leadership.
The application period for the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship began Monday and runs through April or until 3,000 applications have been received, whichever occurs first. Winners will be announced this summer.
A total of 40 college scholarships will be awarded to U.S. residents who are 16-years of age or older and are attending or accepted to a federally accredited four-year college, university or graduate program and who have been active in community service. The school scholarships will be awarded this summer for the 2013-2014 academic year.
One winner will receive $5,000; four winners each will receive $2,500; and 35 winners each will receive $1,000. Applicants are asked to submit an essay of no more than 250 words or a video up to 60 seconds long that describes their community volunteerism and leadership.
They must also provide two references that are directly connected to their community involvement.
