The Well School hosted 100 runners at their cross-country meet Wednesday. Well School Cross-country Coordinator and Coach Russ Freeman of Antrim noted the high the turnout, especially considering it was only the second cross-country meet the school has hosted this year.
The boys race came down to an exciting sprint to the line. Landon McClure of Hillsboro-Deering Middle School took first place in a time of 13:43.
The girls race was won by Morgan Nault with a time of 14:01, beating her record last year by 12 seconds.
The Well School took first place overall for the girls, and St. Joseph Regional took first place overall for the boys.
Schools that participated in Wednesday’s event include the Well School, Monadnock Waldorf, Henniker Middle School, St. Joseph Regional School, Mount Zion Christian School, Saint Patrick School, Granite State Flash, Monadnock Regional Middle School, and Hillsboro-Deering Middle School.
“I would also like to recognize a story that really touched me yesterday,” Freeman said, “A student had fallen down on the course and, in the middle of the race, another student stopped to help him up and make sure he was OK. Logan Putnam of the Hillsboro-Deering Middle School was the student who assisted the other. That is an incredible example of sportsmanship.”
