District returns $603,571 to towns

PETERBOROUGH — Checks went out this week to each of the nine ConVal School District towns, as the district returned $603,571 refunded by the Local Government Center for overpayments to health and dental plans in 2010.

Because some of the payments occurred during the 2009-2010 budget year and some during the 2010-2011 budget year, Business Administrator Marian Alese did two calculations, using the percentage of district assessment for each budget year, in order to determine the amount to be returned to each town. For example, Peterborough accounted for 34.67 of the assessment in 2009-2010 but was up to 36.56 percent in 2010-2011. Antrim’s share of the assessment, on the other hand, went down, from 10.24 percent in 2009-2010 to 9.75 percent in 2010-2011.

The total amounts returned to each town are:

Antrim: $60,326.94

Bennington: $30,118.20

Dublin: $66,573.90

Francestown: $59,663.01

Greenfield: $43,426.94

Hancock: $67,630.15

Peterborough: $214,961.86

Sharon: $14,938.39

Temple: $45,931.76

The total amount returned to the district was $638,967. The district refunded $35,396 of that amount to retired employees who had made excess contributions in 2010, with the balance returned to the towns.
