A sea of pink at Hoops for Hope

To the editor:

I was honored to be asked to speak last Tuesday at the ConVal basketball team’s annual Hoops for Hope game. What an amazing community event!

As I looked around at the audience, while I briefly spoke of my experience with breast cancer six years ago, I was amazed and touched at the sea of pink. Students, spectators, and players wore pink clothes as a symbol of support for breast cancer research — and many made donations to the Hoops for Hope fund, which helps local women struggling with the disease.

The boys and girls on the ConVal and Conant teams played their hearts out. I would like to thank Bev Bacon, ConVal High School and the entire Hopes for Hope committee for the opportunity to share my story and for the beautiful pink flowers and bag of goodies. Events like this set an example and help shape our young people — and my family and I are so grateful to be part of this community.
