ConVal towns, let’s find way

To the editor:

There are voices across our towns that are calling for bold action to rein in the cost of educating our children — and they are right. Further, it will take courage from every parent, every senior citizen, every staff member, and indeed, every person in our district to change a status quo that has been in place for decades. Simply put, our situation — the people, the demographics, the economy, the law — has changed over the last 40 years.

Two key questions that every one of us should consider as residents of a ConVal town: 1. Should the residents of ConVal towns keep eight elementary schools open and running in perpetuity, regardless of cost? 2. Are the residents of ConVal towns willing to forego both significant tax savings and educational benefits, in order to keep eight elementary schools open? If your answer is a resounding “Yes!” to either question, then read no further.

However, if you’re not sure or are open to exploring the idea, please visit saveconvalcosts.blogspot.com. This idea deserves to be discussed over months, without the anger, emotion, and misinformation that occur when warrant articles are introduced two months before voting. Lastly, this is not a campaign. I don’t have the free time to respond to every critic or correct every bit of misinformation, so you won’t see me handing out fliers or writing further letters to the editor. This idea will fail or succeed on its own, based on the will of the voters of our towns. We’ll see in a year or so how courageous we really are.
