ConVal junior Sydney Michalak finished off her Nordic skiing season over the weekend at the Eastern High School Championships at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle, Maine.

Michalak skied in three individual events over the three-day meet and also competed as part of a relay team. She was one of 24 female skiers from the state to make the team, which is determined by the two NH Coaches Series Races.

Since Michalak only skied in the first race, finishing eighth, ConVal coach Scott McGovern petitioned for her to make the squad for a second straight year.

Michalak had her best finish in the 7.5-kilometer classic race on Saturday, placing 24th overall in a time of 28 minutes and 13.5 seconds and was fifth from NH.

Michalak was 46th in the 5K freestyle event, which kicked off the weekend on Friday, in 15:50.6 — good enough for ninth from the state.

And also on Saturday, Michalak took 62nd in the 1.5K sprint competition in 4:19.38.

On Sunday, Michalak was part of the NH 4 x 2.5K relay team that finished 12th.

Overall for the three individual events, Michalak was 31st out of 102 skiers.

During ConVal’s regular season, Michalak had four wins, including the only home meet, and three other top three finishes. She placed third in both the classic and freestyle races at the Division II meet and then had a pair of top 10 finishes at Meet of Champions.
