Mountain serves our community
To the editor:
Francestown is a proud community and a special town that houses part of Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Crotched is one of the finest recreational ski areas in the southwest portion of New Hampshire. Not only does this ski area do a sensational job of providing an exceptional skiing experience during the day but also it provides a healthy recreational opportunity for our young adults and families at night. I can’t think of a place where I would prefer my grandchildren to be than skiing than at Crotched during the winter time. Most of the public school programs take place at night, as well as high school ski racing. Night-time skiing and snowboarding is a needed activity for youth in the region, not to mention everyone else that likes to night ski.
I ask that we all consider the positive aspects that Crotched Mountain brings not only to the Francestown community but to the entire Monadnock region. It seems that in a state like New Hampshire, ski areas stand as symbols of our lifestyle and recreational identity. It would be a shame to lose such a resource.
I ask Francestown residents and their elected officials to please consider permitting Crotched Mountain to proceed with their lighting plans as outlined by them at Town Meeting.
