Let’s rein in ConVal budget

To the editor:

It is that time of year when we the taxpayers of the ConVal School District decide on how large a tax increase we are willing to pay. On Tuesday, March 11, we have the opportunity to vote for the 2014-2015 school budget. As Fran Chapman so eloquently expressed it (as usual) in his recent letter to the editor (Feb. 27), as our student population shrinks the amount of money the School Board and administration want to spend balloons.

The first step we as taxpayers can take is to vote on the 11th of March. As you consider the questions, please realize that questions one, two, three and four will add to an already bloated budget, question five is to replace a 25-year old piece of equipment.

The rejection of the proposed budget will automatically trigger a default budget which is slightly less than the current budget which includes a surplus in excess of $1 million. It will not affect the goal of providing all services as we currently do. (It even includes the three percent salary increase for the highest paid members of the administration.)

Please vote Yes on question five and No on all other money questions. Your tax bill is at stake. Thank you.
