Shaheen standing up for wind

To the editor:

I want to thank N.H. Senator Shaheen for standing up for American wind power and for New Hampshire. Wind power is a good deal for New Hampshire that, with the right policy in place, can only get better.

Recently, Sen. Shaheen joined a bipartisan coalition of 144 Senate and House members in calling for the immediate extension of the Production Tax Credit and the Investment Tax Credit. This policy is a big reason why wind power’s costs have dropped in just four years and why wind power fosters economic development in all 50 states, including right here in the Granite State.

Wind power has attracted over $350 million in capital investment into the state and has supported up to 1,000 jobs. Many of those jobs are well-paying manufacturing jobs at eight wind-related facilities throughout the state.

Installed wind power now provides New Hampshire with 2 percent of its electricity supply. While that number may seem small, that’s the equivalent amount of power for over 54,000 average homes and avoids enough carbon dioxide emissions to take the equivalent of 42,000 cars off the road.

Supporting smart, effective policy like the PTC and the ITC, is needed if we are going to continue growing this clean, renewable, homegrown energy resource here in New Hampshire. Thank you Senator Shaheen for supporting common sense policy that benefits our state.
