Officials near hire on AD
PETERBOROUGH — ConVal High School officials are moving closer to hiring someone to fill the vacancy left when former Athletic Director Jon Hall resigned suddenly on Sept. 30.
ConVal School Supt. Brendan Minnihan later confirmed that school officials had become aware of discrepancies in student activity funds and had determined that proper record-keeping protocols were not followed. Minnihan has said that about $1,000 is missing, which the district expects to be able to recover.
ConVal Principal Brian Pickering, who has been handling athletic director responsibilities since Hall stepped down, said Monday that ConVal administrators have settled on a candidate for the job.
“We’re close. We have a nomination to present to the School Board,” Pickering said. That recommendation will be made at the board’s meeting on Nov. 5.
Pickering said the board is also planning to fill the position of assistant to the athletic director, which became vacant when Mel Keeler also resigned during the first week of October. He said administrators want to wait until a new athletic director is in place, so that person can have input into hiring an assistant.
On Oct. 9, Hall told the Ledger-Transcript, “I’m not guilty of anything. Some things happened on my watch, and I was held responsible.”
The Ledger-Transcript has been unable to contact Keeler for comment.
