Letter: Superintendent a natural fit
To the editor:
It was with great excitement that I read today that Dr. Brendan Minnihan has been selected as the next district superintendent.
Not knowing him personally, his reputation and raising a child in the ConVal district made him a natural fit. Dr. Minnihan will know first hand what issues we are facing as parents and as a local taxpayer.
As Mr. Esty rightly stated, we have pressing issues in the district that need to be addressed. Balancing the most important task of providing a high level of education we are all striving for in our community children, as well as the pressures that are on all of us taxpayers being at a breaking point and cannot handle any further tax increases.
The voters spoke in the district and they want to keep the other middle school open, so we in all the communities are going to have to decide what is important to us, what we can afford, and how do we keep attracting the fantastic educators like Mr. Dunning. It is a tall order, but one that I believe our communities can solve. What we cannot solve is the lower enrollments in the schools as we have less children and parents choose other options like home schooling and private schools.
Congratulations to the Minnihan family and we look forward to working as a community with Dr. Minnihan.
