Exhibit of artwork, poetry ongoing at Hancock library

Six regional poets, members of the Visual Poetry Collective, will exhibit their work in the Daniels Room from Dec. 10 to Dec. 23, with readings of the poems and a discussion of their project "Poems: In a Larger Frame" on Dec. 12th.

The show consists of 18 visual art and poetry panels. Each poet designed three of the panels by pairing either photographs, drawings, collages or paintings with text. The purpose of this mixed-media effort is to explore and expand the possibilities of poetry-off-the-page, using the visual stimulus of art to enhance, reflect or converse with the written poem.

Members of the Collective include poets Candace Bergstrom of Stoddard; Alice Fogel of Acworth, the newly appointed Poet Laureate of New Hampshire; Kate Gleason of Keene; Rodger Martin of Hancock; Patrice Pinette of Wilton; and Becky Sakellariou of Peterborough.

Some of the writers are visual artists as well and work in a variety of mediums, including photography, pastels, acrylics, paper collage and textiles. A number of poem-posters are collaborations between writers and other artists. Copies of the panels along with books by the individual authors will be for sale after the reading. The program is free and open to all.
