Letter: Attacks were unwarranted
To the editor:
This is in response to Leon Proctor’s letter to editor titled “Too much spending in Greenville.”
Mr. Proctor, I just want to address a few items from your letter. First, the employees of Greenville deserve every penny they are getting paid, including the raises given this year. If you were to sit with any one of them for an entire week, and see how smoothly they keep this town running, I believe you would change your opinion. They work countless hours, resolving a wide variety of problems on a daily basis.
Second, you brought up the spouses of the selectboard getting raises. Are you aware that one of those people you referred to has worked for the town highway deptartment for over 30 years, and was making less than $20 an hour? I applaud the pay raise and wish it would have happened sooner. He has certainly earned it.
Now to you, Mr. Proctor. You complain about the Select Board spending the taxpayers’ money. Wasn’t it you, who this past year sued members of the Select Board for “meeting illegally?,” costing the town over $5,000 in legal fees. The suit was frivolous to begin with and was dismissed by a judge. Talk about a waste of money. I strongly suggest you take a look in the mirror before pointing fingers. You may want to rethink who you attack, especially with your name going on the ballot as a candidate for selectman this March.
We as citizens have every right to question our elected officials, but let’s make sure they deserve it first.
