Summer bookmobile gets rolling
The Jaffrey-Rindge School District will have its library on wheels hitting the road again for the 7th summer.
Inside the Mighty Book Bus, which looks like a moving van, are more than 1,500 books arranged by reading levels, resting in plastic bins, and waiting to be chosen by elementary school students.
Patty Long, Paulette Slovenkai, and Matt Harris, teachers at Jaffrey Grade School, run the program because they want to keep children reading throughout the summer. Come September, teachers find students who haven’t been reading lose skills gained the previous year. Many children do not have the opportunity to read a variety of books over the summer and the bookmobile makes summer reading accessible and fun for area children.
This summer the bus will be at the following locations on Tuesdays and Wednesdays:
Tuesdays, through Aug. 12: 8-9:30 a.m., Humiston Field/AIM Camp; 9:45-11:15 a.m., Jaffrey Grade School; 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Jaffwood Apartments; 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Kids Club; 1:45-3 p.m., Franklin Pierce University beach; 3:15-4:30 p.m., Wellington Field, Rindge Recreation.
Wednesdays, through Aug. 13: 8:15-9:30 a.m. Monadnock Community Early Learning Center;
9:45-10:45 a.m. Jaffrey Grade School July 9, 16, 23, and 30; 9:50-10:50 a.m. Rindge Memorial School, Aug. 6 and 13; 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Contoocook Lake Beach, Sunshine Beach, Jaffrey.
Borrowed books may be returned to the bookmobile throughout the summer or to RMS, JGS, or Rindge’s Ingalls Memorial Library if more convenient.
