Art show by Jaffrey native is on display
Beverly Bank is hosting an exhibit of original artwork by Montserrat College of Art graduate Morgan Dyer.
A painter based out of Beverly, Mass., and originally from Jaffrey, Dyer has continued her focus on abstract landscapes since her 2013 graduation. She grew up in New Hampshire and since leaving her hometown, she has noticed her sense of awareness to the land around her. The motivation behind Dyer’s paintings emerges from a curiosity to the landscape and it’s shifting qualities. Most recent paintings are seen through the lens of memory; an escape or initiation towards it. Shifting shapes exist in an atmosphere that can express clarity, or complete fog. Memories that are transformed into paint become an attempt to understand a connection with the past. Some of Dyer’s paintings show obvious forms of landscape, and others deal with formations closer to sea or rock. They often highlight obscure imagery and moments that have been spaced out over time. A composite of deep colors and transparencies serve purpose to memories in which it speaks to. Using acrylic paint, she layers these transparencies to take on interesting forms.
Additional work by Dyer will be on display at Visionspace Gallery’s “CreateHERs” artist reception on Saturday from 6-9 p.m., 16 City Hall Sq. Lynn, Mass. This event will celebrate the emerging work of five female artists - including Dyer- each representing unique perspectives in their selected artistic disciplines.
