Open house, book sale planned at Jaffrey library

The Friends of the Jaffrey Library are having a book sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to kick off National Library Week, which runs Sunday through April 20.

The event doesn’t replace the annual sale on July 27, with Team Jaffrey’s Riverfest celebration. Books collected so far include a selection of cookbooks and library discards in good condition priced to sell.

The sale will also feature hardbacks and paperbacks – from novels and mysteries to biographies, and other nonfiction. The sale will be in the library’s lower level, in the community meeting room and hallway.

Funds raised by the book sale help support special programs and needs in both the children’s and adult sections of the library. Last year, the Friends sponsored the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory program in the summer and a talk on Willa Cather by a noted scholar in the fall. The organization also purchased the genealogical database for the library as well as a display case for new books.

The library will celebrate National Library Week with an open house in the Bean Room on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
