Many united to ensure state aid

To the editor:

Thank you. Gov. Maggie Hassan has signed the budget bill and by doing so approved environmental State Aid Grant funding for both Fiscal Years 2014 and 2015 as part of the biennium budget.

The effects of this team effort are huge for more than 60 New Hampshire municipalities, especially Jaffrey.

Jaffrey owes thanks to our state representatives: Dick Ames, who co-sponsored HB 623 as well as Doug Ley and Harry Young, who also supported the State Budget bill (HB 1). Special thanks go to Sen. Andy Sanborn, who sponsored SB 168 and offered key support in the Senate approval of HB 1. Special thanks also go to the Jaffrey citizens who wrote e-mails and letters to the governor and legislators voicing the urgency of this funding.

The effect of this funding is to restore that partnership between municipalities and the state for environmental infrastructure projects. Equally important is the flexibility this provides municipalities in addressing other critical needs and local priorities. For Jaffrey, it allows us the ability to address the need for new town offices.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this effort. It’s now time to move forward.

Don MacIsaac,
Chair, Jaffrey Board
of Selectmen
