Jaffrey

Riverfest to take over downtown

Jaffrey’s Main Street will become a pedestrian-friendly zone during TEAM Jaffrey’s Riverfest on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The block in front of the Town Common will be traffic free for the annual summer extravaganza, which features family activities from morning until night.

The event will kick off at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the American Legion. Yard sales will start at 8 a.m. at the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce, Shelter From the Storm, United Church, and ARK. At 9 a.m., the Jaffrey Public Library’s annual book sale and registration for the Fire Department’s 5K road race begin.

Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., there will be a vendor fair and a craft fair featuring creations by local artisans; free Zumba dancing for all ages on Main Street; a recital by local music students; displays by local organizations; theatrical presentations; Child Identification Program; face painting; a caricaturist; a farmer’s market; and food stands.

Many attractions are planned for kids, including a wide variety of active games, a budding artist’s area and a bouncy house. Popcorn and cotton candy will also be available.

Back once again is the ever-popular Musical Chairs on Main with a cash prize of $250 for the last person sitting, with additional prizes for second and third place. This spirited game begins at noon on Main Street in front of the Common. New this year is a very special Musical Chairs for kids aged 9 and under. They will have their own circle of 20 chairs next to the adults. First prize is $50 with two additional prizes. Tickets cost $5, and only 100 will be sold for teens/adults and 20 for youngsters. TEAM Jaffrey will be selling tickets ahead of time at its office (lower level of TD Bank on Main Street) or at the information booth on Riverfest day.

The Jaffrey Firefighters will hold a chicken barbecue at the fire station from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On the menu will be a quarter chicken for $8 and a half chicken for $10, corn on the cob, watermelon and beverage. Advanced tickets are available by calling 532-8377 or 532-7168. Tickets will also be sold during Riverfest.

Contact Marie at 532-7168 for more information, to reserve space at the craft fair, or to purchase Musical Chairs tickets.
