Sites ID’d for town offices
Two potential locations for new building near current space
JAFFREY — Officials have their eyes on two multi-family buildings near the existing town offices as possible sites for construction of a new town office facility.
One location is at 15 North St., behind the current offices at 10 Goodnow St. The second spot is at 17 Goodnow St., behind the Jaffrey Public Library. The public will have a chance to weigh in on the two proposals at a meeting Monday that is slated to start at 7 p.m.
Town Manager Dave Caron said Wednesday that both proposals would allow the town to maintain “a campus concept,” with the Police Department, library and town offices neighboring each other downtown.
But building at one of the proposed locations means the town would have to purchase a privately owned, multi-family housing unit, and then demolish or relocate it to make way for a new town office facility, said Caron.
“We hope to arrive at a consensus Monday on a site so that we can continue our discussions with the appropriate property owner,” Caron said.
The new building would be between 8,000 and 9,000 square feet, whereas the current building is 4,400 square feet.
Cost estimates have not yet been discussed, Caron said.
At Town Meeting in March, voters approved a $35,000 warrant article for a preliminary design study of a new town office building.
