Jazz concert at First Church, Sunday
The Thousand Acre Swamp Jazz Band will return to the First Church of Jaffrey on Sunday, at 3 p.m.
The performance will include early jazz, old blues, vintage pop, and standards from the 1920s through the 1940s.
Well known to local audiences, the group describes itself as an early jazz, swing, and blues band, composed of upright bass, drums, banjo, trumpet, trombone, and clarinet.
Named after the Thousand Acre Swamp in the Quabbin, Mass., area, the band’s members hail from Jaffrey and the Massachusetts towns of Phillipston, Granby, and Orange.
The band members are Stephen Babineau, trumpet, vocals/leader; Bill Glenny, clarinet; Terry Reed, banjo/vocals; Pete Travisano, upright bass/vocals; Dan Walker, trombone; Jo-Ann Gerde, drums.
In the last two years they have performed at Jaffrey’s Riverfest, the First Church in Jaffrey, Mindful Books, and RiverMead in Peterborough.
Suggested donation is $10 and reservations are not necessary.
