Jaffrey’s Kitty Rescue hosts open house

Kitty Rescue and Adoption of Jaffrey will celebrate its 12th year anniversary with an open house on Saturday. For the past 12 years, the rescue, a no kill shelter, has been rescuing stray, abandoned and feral cats from Jaffrey and surrounding area towns.

Kitty Rescue, licensed to house 150 cats and/or kittens, has been at or near capacity for most of the years that it’s been in existence. Although hundreds of cats have passed through its doors and into new, loving homes, the shelter continues to receive more calls each week for surrenders and strays than it does adoptions. Many cats arrive in need of expensive medical care or are pregnant.

KRA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that runs solely on the financial support of generous donors and a staff of hard working volunteers. Every bit of donations received goes directly to the care of the cats in residence, as there are no payroll expenses.

Join the celebration at 11 Plantation Dr., across from Good Shepherd Nursing Home, from 2 to 5 p.m. Take a tour of the shelter, enjoy refreshments, and register for door prizes.

If you would like to bring an anniversary gift, the wish list includes canned food and treats, bleach, antibacterial dish soaps and hand soaps, paper towels, toilet paper, mops, brooms, Shop Vacs, laundry detergent, and flea treatment — either Revolution or Advantage II large dog that will be dosed to fit the cats.

If you can’t make the open house, the shelter is open Monday through Thursday 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for adoptions and tours by appointment. Call 532-9444. Please find Monadnock Kitty Rescue and Adoption on petfinder to see all the cats up for adoption.
