Arrest in theft of machinery
LYNDEBOROUGH — A joint effort by police in five area towns led to the arrest of a Wilton man on burglary charges last week.
Lyndeborough Police Chief Rance Deware said Tuesday that police had started an investigation on Nov. 4 after being notified that equipment had been stolen from J&F Auto Body on Forest Road in Lyndeborough. Deware said the business owner had noticed a suspicious person on the property prior to discovering the items missing and police were able to identify a suspect.
Lyndeborough police obtained information that led them to get search warrants for buildings in Greenfield and Antrim. Police from Antrim, Greenfield, Francestown and Wilton assisted Lyndeborough in searching the buildings, and police located the stolen items, which Deware said included a MIG arc welder valued at about $5,000 and a 10-ton porta-power hydraulic lift, at a storage facility in Antrim.
After further investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Michael J. Flagg, 57, of Wilton. Flagg was arrested in Greenfield on Nov. 15 by Lyndeborough and Greenfield police. He was held on $10,000 cash bail and arraigned on Nov. 18 in 9th Circuit Court, Milford. At the arraignment, bail was continued at $10,000 cash.
Deware said Flagg is being held in jail, with a probable cause hearing set for Nov. 26 in 9th Circuit Court.
