Mascenic, WLC fall Tuesday

The WLC girls basketball team traveled to Sunapee Tuesday night. The Warriors lost to the Lakers 62-33 in what turned out to be a physical, loosely officiated game in front of a raucous Sunapee crowd that antagonized the WLC players all game long.

“One of the most frustrating things as an athlete is having the opposing fans harassing you and not being able to do a single thing about it,” WLC forward Kelsey Randlett tweeted after the game. Head coach Dennis Claire, however, said that the fans were just one more obstacle that his players had to overcome to win.

“You’ve got to forget about it and just keep playing,” Claire said.

Sophomore Ally Schwab led the Warriors with 13 points and senior Sami Bosquet chipped in 11 of her own. The Warriors were done in by early turnovers, and were down 34-9 at the half before turning things around.

“They surprised us with the intensity of their press,” Claire said of the strong Sunapee team. “They’re the team to beat this year. They’ve got a lot of height and good shooters.”

WLC travels to Hinsdale for another tough matchup Friday.

The Mascenic girls team started out strong against Monadnock Tuesday night, trailing only 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. “After that, it was all downhill,” head coach Wiley Billings said. The Huskies took it to the Vikings for the rest of the game, going on a 46-10 run to win 60-21.

“Play was very sloppy,” Billings said. “It was just one of those nights.”

The 0-2 Vikings play at Conant on Tuesday. Conant’s game at Campbell was postponed due to icy weather conditions on Tuesday; no word yet on the date. The Orioles play Monadnock tonight at 7 p.m. at Conant's Pratt Auditorium.
