Mascenic to open Hall of Fame
With a rich tradition of athletic success, there will be a new way to recognize achievements at Mascenic High School.
After a year and a half of discussing the idea of an athletic hall of fame and making sure the criteria and guidelines were just right, the Mascenic Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame Association has begun accepting nominations for its inaugural class. The deadline for nominations will be April 21. Nominations received after April 21 will automatically be forwarded for 2014 review.
Athletes are eligible five years after graduating from Mascenic and teams may be selected 10 years after the season in which they are being nominated. Coaches, contributors and school district employees are eligible at any time. Those chosen for inclusion will be based entirely on their athletic career at Mascenic. Nominees who are not selected in the year they are put before the association will be carried over to the following year.
The hall of fame association, consisting of seven board members, looked at three models from other high schools who opened a hall of fame before creating a format that worked best for Mascenic.
After the April 21 deadline, the association will meet to discuss the list of potential inductees and determine the first class.
The induction ceremony will be held at Homecoming Weekend in September, but exact date and place is still being considered.
