Publisher announces donation campaign
The Armarium Press announces its third Bark for Books! Campaign to help the young children of deployed and wounded U.S. servicemen and women prepare for their first day of school.
The New Ipswich-based independent publisher, will donate one copy of “Learning Is Cool… It’s the First Day of School!” by canine author “Chaucer the Dog” for every copy sold between May 1 and Aug. 15 up to 100 books.
“We came up with the idea shortly before ‘Learning Is Cool’ was released,” says publisher Carmen Madrid. “We’d been corresponding with the Baghdad-based soldier we’d adopted through the Soldiers’ Angels program, and it occurred to us how difficult it must be for kids to start kindergarten or first grade with a beloved parent so far away. Our soldier sent us the names and addresses of the appropriately aged children who had a parent in his platoon. We mailed each child a gift-wrapped copy of the book — pawtographed by Chaucer, of course — and inscribed with the child’s name. The feedback from the parents was so enthusiastic that we decided to do it on a much larger scale!”
“Learning Is Cool… It’s the First Day of School!” is the first book in the Chaucer in the Classroom series from Canterbury Tails Books, the children’s book division of The Armarium Press.
