Automotive students take first place

Duncan Fafard, left, and Peter Somero, with their instructor Vinny Fittante, center, watching alongside several Mascenic team supporters, demonstrated a well-orchestrated game plan to correctly diagnose and repair a deliberately “bugged” 2013 Ford Focus SE at Ford AAA Auto Skills competition that took place in Epping at the New England Dragway recently.

They were the first team to get their car running and theirs was the first car from all three states competing to head to the judge for a final evaluation. After this evaluation, it was determined that they were not only first to complete the task at hand, they did so with a perfect score.

Fafard and Somero have been training for several weeks. This is the 11th time Mascenic Automotive Career Center has competed in this competition and the 10th time its students have won.

Both students will now prepare for Nationals happening June 9 to 12 at the Ford Motor Company Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.
