Mascenic School District
Board to review need for assistant principal
GREENVILLE — Having accepted the resignation of Highbridge Hill Elementary School Assistant Principal Linda Kalloger, the Mascenic School District will be reviewing the position in the coming weeks before deciding whether or not to refill it.
Kalloger, who has been the assistant principal at the elementary school since construction was completed in 2010, has left the district to accept a position in the Monadnock School District. The Mascenic School Board accepted her resignation with regret at its July 1 meeting. But rather than begin discussing the search process for a new assistant principal, the board decided to take Kalloger’s leaving the position as an opportunity to study whether an assistant principal is needed at the elementary school.
School Board Chair Jeff Salmonson suggested that over the course of the next two weeks, the district’s new superintendent, Ruthann Goguen, review the position and discuss the roll the position plays in the school with the elementary school principal, before any decision is made.
School Board member Jim Kingston agreed, saying he would not be comfortable making any move on the position either way until all the relevant people had been consulted, including Marion Saari, the principal at Highbridge Hill.
Resident Chad Gibson pointed out that of the district’s three schools the elementary school has the largest population. Gibson asked if the district had looked into how other schools with comparable populations administer their schools.
Salmonson said that although he has not looked into the issue recently, former board member Chris Lund had noted in the past that no other elementary school of comparable size in the state employs an assistant principal.
“That’s why we’re going to look at the position a little more closely,” Salmonson said during the July 1 meeting.
The School Board will meet on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Mascenic Education Center in Greenville.
