Estey to chair School Board
PETERBOROUGH — ConVal School Board members elected Butch Estey of Peterborough as board chair on Tuesday, resolving a situation that had left the board without a leader after the March election.
When they voted for a chair on March 20, the board deadlocked 5-5 between Estey, the incumbent who had served two terms as chair, and Greenfield representative Myron Steere. As a result, Pierce Rigrod of Hancock, who had been elected vice chair, ran the meeting that night.
Tuesday’s vote was nearly as close, with Estey getting 6 votes to 5 for Steere.
Estey voted for himself and also received the votes of Tom Ferenc of Peterborough, Linda Quintanilha of Bennington, Pierce Rigrod of Hancock, Crista Salamy of Bennington and Joel Green of Peterborough.
Steere voted for himself and got support from Rich Cahoon of Antrim, David Martz of Temple, Jon Ingram of Peterborough and Fiona Tibbetts of Dublin.
Stephan Morrissey of Francestown, who was elected to the board in March, was not present for the vote, although he arrived later in the meeting.
Sharon does not currently have a School Board representative, after the two write-in candidates who got the most votes in March turned down the job. The Sharon Select Board is in the process of contacting others who received write-in votes to determine if any of them are willing to serve on the board.
