Solar project will cost us in the end
To the editor:
In his letter to the editor on July 17 concerning the proposed solar installation, Peterborough Planning Board member Alan Zeller assures the public that “the grant money comes from PSNH, not the federal government, not the ratepayers, but our utility.” So where does he think our utility gets its money if not from us ratepayers? And if you don’t think that government renewable energy mandates are increasing your monthly PSNH bill, check out the example of Germany, which has both the highest renewable mandates and the highest utility costs in Europe.
It seems that our town officials are a bit star-struck by this project, which seems to promise clean, cheap energy. Things that appear too good to be true usually are. While the flaw in this scheme may not be immediately apparent, you can bet that there is one, and if anyone 20 years hence cares to do an honest accounting, you can be sure that the project will not have been free. But in the meantime, those who lose sleep worrying about their carbon footprint can have a good snooze.
