Project Shakespeare presenting three plays

Celebrating 20 years, Project Shakespeare will present three productions for their 2014 summer season including a new program for elementary and middle school students. Performances will run from July 24 through Aug. 4 at locations in Jaffrey, Rindge and Peterborough.

The mainstage company will present “The Taming of the Shrew” directed by Deborah Shakespeare Thurber. A new program, Project Shakespeare Too!, will present “As You Like it” directed by Angela Vroom.

These two plays will be presented as a double bill, performed beginning Thursday, July 24, at ConVal High School. Other performances will be Saturday, July 26, in the Cornucopia Community Garden at the Peterborough Community Center; July 29-31, on the Jaffrey Civic Center lawn; and Friday, Aug. 1, at Cathedral of the Pines, Rindge. Encore performances of “Hamlet” also are planned for Friday, July 25, at ConVal High School; Monday, July 28, at the Jaffrey Civic Center; and Saturday, Aug. 2, at Cathedral of the Pines, Rindge.

All performances will be at 6 p.m. Tickets prices are $7 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under 12. Tickets are available at the door up to one hour before the performance time.

Each summer the Royal Shakespeare Company invites select amateur, student and professional theater troupes to perform at their open air theater, The Dell. Project Shakespeare was selected by the Royal Shakespeare Company to perform Hamlet at The Dell in Stratford-upon-Avon — the birthplace of William Shakespeare himself — on Aug. 9 and 10. A special send-off performance of “Hamlet” is planned for Monday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick School, Jaffrey. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for pre-show food and beverages. This performance will be free to the community as a thank you for supporting our trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, England. The community helped raise $30,000 toward this trip.
