Ledger-Transcript adds sales reps to its staff
PETERBOROUGH — Tim Schloemer and Maria Adolphson have joined the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript’s staff as ad sales representatives. Both will be serving customers in the Keene area, and Adolphson will also work in Dublin and Marlborough.
Schloemer plans to use his background in printmaking and preparing art exhibits to help design eye-catching advertisements for his clients at the Ledger-Transcript.
Schloemer, 50, who recently joined the paper’s staff, will be covering the Keene territory. He has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa and a Masters of Fine Arts in printmaking from the State University of New York in Albany. A native of Iowa, he worked for the New York State Museum in Albany as an exhibit specialist for 10 years, putting together shows that were distributed to museums around the state.
“Preparing art exhibits is similar to print advertising in many ways,” Scholemer said last week. “You’re using graphics and text to communicate a message, trying to send a concise, clear image. There’s a lot of crossover.”
Schloemer, his wife, Denise Poulin, and their children, Daniel and Elsa, moved to Greenfield from Bennington, Vt., about four and a half years ago, when Poulin took a job at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua.
They were welcomed to the region a few months later, when the December ice storm hit.
“We managed all right,” Schloemer recalled. “We went two weeks without power, but we got it back on Christmas Eve.”
Daniel, 16, is now a student at ConVal High School and Elsa attends The Well School.
Schloemer’s most recent job was working for Beacon Trust, a Boston-based company that has been moving a large art collection to a new location. He’s also been busy running his own framing business and renovating his Greenfield home.
Schloemer said he’s focusing on getting to know his customers.
“Right now, I’m trying to meet as many people as I can,” he said. “The most interesting part of the job is meeting so many clever businesspeople. They are really entrepreneurs and it’s nice to hear their concerns and to help them grow their businesses.”
Adolphson has made her living in sales, both on the retail side and as a advertising representative, and she’s brought those skills to the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript as a newly hired sales executive.
Adolphson was born and raised in London, and that’s where she got her start in sales. Her first real job experience was as a sales representative for Russ Berrie, an American company. She did most of her sales training there. She was eventually chosen to be the London sales representative for Russ Berrie at a time when the company was struggling with advertising sales. Within a year, she said, she made it the most successful territory in the country.
“I knew that sales was something that I really enjoyed,” Adolphson said in an interview on March 6. “I like connecting with people, and I find the sales side of things interesting. I’ve kept all of my experience within sales, either in retail or on the road as a sales rep.”
Adolphson first came to New Hampshire in 2011, when she and her family moved to Peterborough for her husband’s job. She had been working part-time in retail at New England Everyday Goods in Peterborough when she applied for the position as an ad representative with the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript, feeling that was a better fit for her background.
“I thought that would fit my strengths,” she said.
About her time with the Ledger-Transcript so far, she said, “The selling part of it has been second nature to me,”
When not at work, Adolphson enjoys watching her son’s hockey games, going to the theater, gardening and making trips home to London to visit with family.
