Letter: Help save the theater

To the editor:

Having lived in the area for about 12 years, I was very excited when two years ago we bought a place right in downtown Peterborough. Now my wife, Karen, our son, Oliver, and I walk everywhere in town. We love to be able to walk to Roy’s, the bank, Need for Speed, Toadstool, Harlow’s as well as all the other great places, and it’s really cool to have the Peterborough Community Theater downtown.

As you may have heard, the theater is in danger of closing for good. They must convert to digital equipment in order to maintain their existence. The good news is, if they go digital they will be able to get the most current, first run movies and not have to wait for a copy to come available. They will also be able to show a few movies concurrently, offering different ones in the afternoons and evenings. The bad news is, going digital costs a lot of money, especially for a small family run business.

If the PCT were to close it would be a detriment to the community. Who wants to drive all the way to Merrimac or Keene and fight the traffic when we have a gem right here in Our Town?

I ask everyone young, elder or anywhere in between to please help save the PCT by going to the online fundraising campaign and making a pledge at www.kickstarter.com. Once there, just search for “Peterborough theater.”

The way Kickstarter works is simple. Every project creator sets their project’s funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged.

The PCT ‘s goal is $45,000 and the deadline is April 3. They’ve already reached 32 percent of their goal. Only you can bring them the rest of the way.
