Peterborough’s TRS Energy Solutions offers energy audits
A new local company, TRS Energy Solutions, is offering comprehensive home performance and energy assessment of homes or business.
Proprietor Ted Stiles ended a 19-year career as an independent school educator to create TRS Energy Solutions. “I found myself too often staring out of my classroom at the ice dams and massive icicles on nearby buildings — sure signs of heat loss — and planning ways to get rid of them correctly, not with bags of salt or heaters, but by finding the source and eliminating it.”
Stiles got his start working and volunteering for a nonprofit, the Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative, as a BPI-certified energy analyst and a solar thermal and PV installer. He still does projects with them, including organizing and presenting two “Button Up NH” workshops, one at the Peterborough Library in early March, co-sponsored by the River Center.
He is also on the steering committee of Monadnock Energy Resources Initiative, a local group that is focusing on home weatherizations and solar energy.
Typically, a comprehensive energy audit involves a variety of diagnostic equipment, such as a blower door, infrared camera, and combustion safety tools. Stiles says, “In addition to health, safety, and building durability comments, a good audit report will include energy and financial savings predictions and payback periods for various energy conservation measures.”
TRS Energy Solutions has also recently teamed up with another New Hampshire company, Yankee Thermal Imaging, to be able to offer access to the Home Performance with Energy Star program, in which residential customers can get an audit for only $100, and can get 50 percent of the cost of their project paid for up to $4,000.
